What if… Our Vision
Leslie and I are excited to officially launch BEACON, a nonprofit focused on a hospitality driven outreach to seasonal workers and young adults in Telluride, CO. However, reaching out to this crew did not originate with us. The Alpine Chapel has organized dozens of volunteers for years to host Friday Feast, a free meal in the winter months for the lifties every other Friday night. Hundreds of mountain workers have looked forward to this tradition over the years.
In our work with Friday Feast, we saw the need to expand this amazing outreach and offer more opportunities to the hundreds of seasonal workers who come from all over the world to Telluride to work and enjoy this stunning place
Why in our 50’s would we take a risk to pursue a nonprofit? We had a good thing going in Golden!
But we had to ask: what if our life could be filled with deeper purpose? What if by offering hospitality, we could use our home, our time, our skills, and yes - maybe our age - to reach a population of workers who are often overlooked in these mountain towns? What if each one of these individuals had an advocate looking out for them? What if we could use our passion for skiing and the outdoors to connect with others who had that same passion? What if families with resources in the community caught a vision to give back to the very people who are serving them on a daily basis? What if there were safe places to go for these workers to hang out in the winter? What if dozens of families hosted workers in their homes on a monthly basis offering a thoughtful meal, a warm seat at the table and a friendly conversation? What if any seasonal worker who wanted a mentor could have one? What if there were ample resources and advocates willing to help those struggling, those addicted or those needing guidance to the proper professionals who could help them? What if every seasonal worker could thrive during their time here and have a path to thrive once they leave?
We are dreaming. Do you want to join us? We are raising funds yes, but also raising an army of hope filled volunteers who want to open their home, their hearts, their gifts - whether over Zoom or in person.
See our site below and feel free to reach out! We are so excited, friends. Grateful for this opportunity…in this time…in this place.
We See You
Welcome to Telluride
No one ends up in Telluride by accident. If you’re here, it means you made a choice—a decision to live differently, to chase adventure, and to carve out your own path. Whether you’re working lifts, pouring coffee, serving tables, teaching lessons, or guiding on the mountain, you’re part of what makes this town run. And you’re also part of what makes it special.
We know that choice doesn’t come easy. Living here often means giving up certain comforts or predictable paths in exchange for something wilder and more free. The highs are incredible—powder days, summer trails, the kind of beauty that takes your breath away. But there are also lows: housing struggles, long hours, loneliness, or just trying to figure out what’s next.
Whatever brought you here—whether it’s chasing fresh snow, seeking mountain adventures, or simply searching for more out of life—we see you. We see your courage to take risks. We respect the passion in your heart. And we honor the cost it took for you to get here.
At Beacon, we want you to know you don’t have to do this alone. We’d love to share a meal, catch up on the slopes, or sit by the river together. More than anything, you’ll always have a place at our table. No matter your story, no matter your background—you belong here.
Our lives have been deeply changed by Jesus. We believe He shows us what love truly looks like and how life can be lived to the fullest. But here’s the thing: our care for you doesn’t depend on what you believe or where you come from. We simply want to walk alongside you, hear your story, and be an advocate for you as you navigate life in Telluride.
Hope to meet you soon.
